Kaytee Crawford, Artist and Doula, at home with her husband David Crawford, IT Project Manager, and their three sons (baby boy #4Â due later this summer).
"As a doula, I thought it would be easier with having more time off, but I'm still constantly thinking of my clients and trying to do right by them without being with them. Most hospitals are not allowing doulas and it's only the partner with the client unless they don't have a partner. Doulas are trying to do virtual help as much as possible, but that has challenges, too. Thankfully with my art I am able to express my emotions and feelings. It allows me to put love and positivity out there. Also, it's an avenue to support my mental health."
"I'm more stressed since The Pandemic began. Stressed because I can't leave the house much, see friends or visit places I love. And now since GF (George Floyd) I'm more angry and more scared. I worry for my family on a whole other level. I just want them to be safe. For us to feel safe. I constantly worry about something happening to my husband. Biases goes both way. So, as happy that I am that people are examining theirs and realizing their racist tendencies, I also worry about people who are feeling more brazen about their biases and racism."
"What does that mean for my husband? I feel like things are more on alert right now. I worry when he leaves the house because I need him to come home safe and sound. I also worry about my kids in the same way, but luckily I'm more able to keep them safe at their young ages."
"This is a REVOLUTION. Things will hopefully only get better. We're fighting for our lives. People (mainly white) are realizing what we've been saying for hundreds of years. We matter. I think that it's opening eyes and opening hearts and I hope that it changes the world for the better. It has to... Everything is so hard right now. Thank you for asking me to do this."
