Amy A. Nguyen, Production Manager of The Fitzgerald Theater, tells the project, "I was born and grew up in southern Minnesota, however I did have family with deep ties to Saint Paul. Visits to them and school field trips were special occasions for me, so time spent in Saint Paul were like little gems in my young life. And now I get to be a thread in the grand cloth (of Downtown Saint Paul)."

Amy explores what she loves about Downtown, "The diversity. We have a mingling of historical buildings, religious (The Cathedral), residential, arts and culture, and businesses and a variety of restaurants. There's something for everyone... (It would be great) to have more (hopefully local) business and places for people to visit, shop and in general - have a purpose to be and to use. More places for people to connect, live their lives and feel strong ties to."

“My hope is our quietly elegant theater is a welcoming place in the Downtown area. That we are a location for people to visit, create and share extraordinary experiences… I see myself as a steward in the long list of people who have worked backstage at this theater.”

“Our job is more than just stagecraft, to me it's also maintaining the physical venue and looking after the well being of the artists and crew. I'm always happy to hear when someone says they feel welcomed, feel safe and feel they are heard.”

Amy continues, "I will do my best to make sure my chapter in this theater's history is something to be proud of when the future looks back. I'd like to, when the time comes, be able to leave the theater better than the I was entrusted, to the next steward."

Amy's favorite spot Downtown is an easy choice, “With bias- The Fitzgerald Theater. This theater can offer escape from the world to some people, for others a chance to become someone else on stage, a place where artists can practice their arts, the crew working their craft backstage. This theater is more than a livelihood, its also a safe, creative space…”

“Everyday I come to work and there is always a moment where I will pause and remember that so many other people have been in this building and contributed some part of themself to its history. They created memories here, for themselves and for others.”

Amy makes the world better through acts of service, "As only one person, I can only influence the backstage of this theater. but I do my best to make sure my crew and our artists have a safe place to work, to practice their crafts and to have positive experiences."

Thank you for sharing your beautiful Downtown Saint Paul Story with us, Amy. The pride you take in your work ripples out and os absolutely part of what makes Downtown great✨
