Abbey Nielsen, Exhibit Prop Specialist for The Children's Museum of Minnesota, tells us,

“I've spent half of my life in the Downtown area. I have memories walking to The Central Library for story time during my daycare days. Attending high school at SPCPA and enjoying lunches out in Rice Park, and now working at Minnesota Children's Museum…”

“I feel like I've tread the cobblestones of Wabasha Place over so many different periods of my life and each holds a special place in my heart. To have such a long connection with one place is something I value…”

“I love how calm Saint Paul feels for a city. I enjoy walks on my lunch break down to Raspberry Island and being on the river is very peaceful.”

Abbey continues, “I hope the future of Downtown Saint Paul is that it's a place to live and thrive for all who live here and those who visit. I hope it has a variety of places to eat and play, with new things to find along next to the old favorites.”

“I think that the Children's Museum is a part of that story where families can make memories and also grow together. I'm sure that the Children's Museum is some people's first introduction to Downtown Saint Paul, and hopefully they explore the surrounding area too- Even in the winter! Hello, Skyways!”

"A favorite spot of mine is actually across the river at Harriet Island Park looking back at Downtown. I just find the bluffs beautiful and to have such nature so close to Downtown is a special combination."

Abbey has a wonderful response on how she makes the world better, "It is the great joy of my job to be a part of creating an environment where children are leaders in their own play and learning. I love working with the team at Minnesota CM to both support and grow with caregivers and children as we all navigate life together.

An example I always like to give is that at The Children's Museum, if a child hands you an 'apple' and says, "This, is a dragon's egg." Your role is to say "YES! And when does it hatch?"

Thank You, Abbey! For sharing your Downtown Saint Paul Story with me and the BAT Community. I appreciate the reminder to slow down and look for the dragon's eggs in all our days.
